St. Vincent’s Medical Imaging & Nuclear Medicine
Level 5, St. Vincent’s Clinic, Darlinghurst, Sydney
Situation: St. Vincent’s Medical Imaging & Nuclear Medicine required an addition MRI to be installed into their existing Medical Imaging Practice due to overwhelming demand for services.
The project was a Design & Construct with a high-level budget produced from a concept drawing developed between our team and the client.
Solutions: The works required demolition of existing partitions, ceilings, fixtures and fittings to make way for the new layout and new equipment.
The equipment to be installed was the Siemens 3T Verio MRI which required an MRI-RF Cabin to be design & Constructed by Specialist Cabin Constructor Faraday.
The new MRI facility was to be integrated into the currently occupied Imaging suite and therefore required staged works and special constraints on noise and disruptive works to ensure patients continued to receive care while the construction works took place.
The new works were architecturally designed with services designs provided by specialist contractors who are experts in medical installation projects. A shielding design was also produced to ensure radiation and RF protection to surrounding suites and to the floors above and below the MRI Cabin.
These works required the use of cranes and logistics crews to deliver and police the equipment through a specially constructed “plug” in the roof of the hospital as the equipment is too large and too heavy to be transported through the hospital corridors and in elevators.
The project saw the construction of a new MRI facility including Cabin, Control Rooms, Reporting Rooms, Change Rooms and equipment rooms which were seamlessly integrated into the existing practice.
Result: The project was successfully delivered on time and on budget allowing SVCMI & NM to double their MRI Patients by having 2 x MRI’s running in conjunction with each other and service more patients on a daily basis.
No expense was spared on this project, which saw perimeter windows retained and shielded to provide the cabin with an outlook over Darlinghurst as well as a Sky Ceiling to relax the patients as they are being scanned.
